Cruise control systems consist of several common components which include vehicle speed sensor, operator controls, control module, and throttle actuator. Vehicle Speed Sensor. It is usually mounted on the drive shaft. It sends a speed signal to the control module. The speed sensor may also send a signal to the engine control computer. Operator Controls. The operator controls are used to set the desired speed. Control location varies between manufacturers, but is usually mounted on the turn signal lever. The operator can set the speed, and can also make minor adjustments to speed as necessary. Another operator control is the brake pedal release switch, usually mounted on the brake pedal bracket.
