LEGO® Pick-a-Brick Cost Comparison Analysis by Michael Bradford, Revised April 18, 2013, Copyright ©2013 I recently decided I needed a new outlet of fun to alleviate some stress in my life. One thing lead to another and I got back into building things out of LEGO bricks. Being fortunate enough to live in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area I have relatively easy access to 2 official LEGO stores (Dallas Northpark and Frisco Stonebriar), a LEGOLAND Discovery Center (Grapevine), and an unofficial LEGO store called Minifigs Bricks and More (Denton). I’m relatively new to the AFOL community and have grown to really appreciate this fine group of people. This is my first article for the LEGO fan community. I haven’t seen any comparison done like this, and I believe it will be helpful to others. Having purchased and built several sets ranging from large to small, and seeing many fabulous MOCs out there, I naturally began to endeavor to create my own MOC’s. I have done a few small things, but seem to always need more bricks! I know I’m not alone out there. Doing something substantial of course requires a large amount and variety of bricks. Although B is great, I have found that I can get far better (with rare exceptions) prices per piece by utilizing the PAB walls at the LEGO stores. Everything I’ve read and seen online has favored the large PAB cup over the small cup; but nothing I’ve seen has qualified that assumption. The LEGOLAND Discovery Center has its own cup, and Minifigs Bricks and More has 2 sizes of zipper-lock bags. Then there is the LEGO official online PAB system, and the bulk box you can buy at the official LEGO store. Which purchasing method gives us the best prices per piece?
