He was promoted to major-general in October 1938 and took command of the 8th Infantry Division in Palestine and he quashed an Arab revolt. Montgomery suffered a serious illness on the way when he returned to Britain in July 1939. World War II Montgomery was appointed commander North African Campaign on November 1942 in order to save the failure. Montgomery commanded Allied to beat the Rommel German army in the Second Battle of El Alamein in October 1942. In March 1943, Montgomery took command of Allied to clear out of the German army from the North Africa in the Tunisia. Montgomery leaded Britain Army to attack Sicily and seized this island.
