The data were collected at the TRIUMF cyclotron using the RMC 4 spectrometer by detecting gamma-ray pairs from pion stops in liquid hydrogen. No 0 / evidence was found to support an earlier claim for exotic baryons of masses 1004 and x 2 1044 MeV/c . We obtain upper limits on the branching ratios for double radiative e −6 −6 - capture via these exotic states of 3 × 10 and 4 × 10 respectively. l c u n Key words: : v i X r a 1 Introduction Until recently all hadrons were classified as either three quark or quark antiquark states. The mounting evidence [1,2,3,4,5,6] for an exotic baryon – the θ+ (1540) – has likely begun a new chapter in hadron spectroscopy. The θ+ (1540) has baryon number B = +1 and strangeness S = +1, which im plies a minimally exotic pentaquark substructure uudds. Such exotics woul
