According to confin ing materials and confining m odels, confined concrete is classified into stirrup confined concrete, steel tube confined concrete, FRP confined concrete and other new m aterial confined concreteThe developm ent of hoop reinforcement confined concrete structures are review ed. Research works on m echanical properties, confined m echanism and comm on constitutivem odels of hoop reinforcement confined concrete are summarized. A s the restriction level is directly related to the properties of confined concrete, it is suggested that the transverse reinforcem ent strength should be enhanced, the diam eter of tube should be thinned, and the spacing should be reduced. It is recomm ended that highstrength concretem em bers be confined w ith highstrength transverse reinforcem ents to mi prove the capacity and deformation perform ance. Furtherm ore, the restriction mechanism and m echanical properties of regional confined concrete and 5sp irals confined concrete are introduced.
