Advanced Technology Institute, Technology Center of Bao Steel, Shanghai 201900, China) Abstract:The specimens were taken from the 304 stainless steel. The residual stresses of the specimens after quenching and air cooling were measured, respectively. By finite element method ( FEM) , the temperature and stress fields of the specimens during quenching and air cooling were simulated. By comparing the measured residual stress of the specimenwith the simulated one, they are closer to each other very well, which indicates this model is effective. Based on the results mentioned above, the changes of temperature and stress fields of the 304 stainless steel specimens during quenching and air cooling at different time and different location are simulated in this works.
