Purpose To meet the government standard basic criterion GB188712002 for radiation protection and safety, and to optimize the design of the shielding protection of medical linear accelera tor. Methods Based on the latest government standard GB188712002 for radiation protection and safety, with sustainable development of radiation protection in mind, and according to the radiation physics characteristics of the medical linear accelerator that w ould be install, w e undertook a rigorous and optimized calculation for the protection needed for the radiation of the accelerator. Results The optimum design for the shielding protection of medical linear accelerator met the latest government standard GB188712002 for radiation protection and safety. Conclusions The optimum design for the shielding protection of medical linear accel
