[ABSTRACT] Anthocyanins are a group of important secondary plant metabolites with potent pharmacological action and po-
tentiality for therapeutic application. Anthocyanin biometabolism pathway is one of the most clearly studied plant metabolic
pathways.In this pathway, acetyl-CoA carboxylase, phenylalanine ammonia- lyase, cinnamate-4-hydroxylase, 4-coumarate CoA
ligase,chalcone synthase, chalcone isomerase, flavanone-3B-hydroxylase, dihydroflavono-l 4-reductase, anthocyanidin synthase,
flavonoid-3c-hydroxylase, flavonoid-3c,5c-hydroxylase,anthocyanin acyltransferases, anthocyanin methyltransferases and antho-
cyanin glycosyltransferases are involved. T he enzymes related to the formation of anthocyanins and their coding genes are
reviewed in this paper in order to provide reference for pharmaceutical application of anthocyanins.
