200 36 2003, №6 17 1 Foreign Languages and Their T eaching Serial №17 1 谈外语实证研究 刘润清 (北京外国语大学中国外语教育研究中心, 北京　100089) 　　　:本文回顾了作者科研历史上的主要事例, 力图为外语界的青年科研工作者提供可资借 的研究经验。科研工 作不能盲目追求数量, 忽视质量, 也不能过分强调科研的技术含量而忽视了哲学意义。 :科研;实证研究 　　Abstract:This article is an account of the authors research history with the attempt to pro ide beginner researchers with some useful information about scientific research.The research history of the author can be roughly di ided into the follow ing phas- es:writing book re iews, writing re iew articles, writing state-of-the-art articles, doing empirical research based on existing writ- ten materials, and conducting large-scale empirical research projects, thus reflecting a process of de elopment from the simple to the complicated, from the elementary to the ad anced, and from introduction to originality .With a detailed account of the author s experience in conducting the brain-racking large-scale empirical research projects, the article points out that adherence to scientific standards, strict designs, reliable instruments in data processing , and cautiousness in interpreting test results, are prerequisites for research w ork .It is also argued that quality in research w ork can ne er be sacrificed for the sake of quantity and that philosophic significance can ne er be ignored for the sake of technicality .
