Helmed by two Portuguese Central St. Martins graduates, Marques Almeida makes shift dresses, tunics and free-form trenches with deconstructed edges, layering their pieces for a heavy, anti-body-conscious effect. Following a bleached and frayed spring debut, F/W 12 explored darker territory via ombré dyed black denim trimmed in chartreuse and paired with combat boots, the uniform of a modern apocalyptic warrior. Launched last year in L.A., a well-known denim destination city, Skargorn is the vision of former Leviʼs design director Rikke Korff, an industry veteran and creator of the brandʼs groundbreaking “engineered” jean. Thanks to placement on the Madewell website, Skargorn, translated as “alley of knives,” is gaining traction with three silhouettes produced in black, white and classic blue, each cut slim and infused with a touch of stretch. Edgy but accessible, the fledgling label aims to redefine American-made, rockʼnʼroll-influenced premium denim.
