 Synthesis, kinetic stabilities and potential anti-obesity activity of [Cr(III)(SA)(TETA)]ClO4# 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40  Abstract: In this paper one chromium(III) complexes, [Cr(III)(SA)(TETA)]ClO4 (I), was synthesized, and the structure was determined by X-ray crystallography (en=ethylenediamine, TETA= triethylenetetramine). Its kinetic stabilities in different media and different conditions (pH, H2O2, EDTA or visible light) were studied by means of UV-visible spectroscopy. Then its efficacy to prevent obesity was tested using a diet-induced obesity rat model. The primary results indicate that the compound effectively suppress the increases in body mass and adipose mass, without any noticeable toxic effect. It also prevented increases in the plasma triglyceride, cholesterol, and low density lipoprotein (LDL) concentrations. Keywords: Chromium; salicylic acid; Kinetic stability; Diet-induced obesity 0 Introduction Nearly 50 years ago, Mertz and coworkers proposed that chromium (Cr) was an essential trace element to life [1,2]. Chromium is required for proper glucose metabolism and potentiation of the action of insulin[3-5]. Chromium trispicolinate, Cr(pic)3, is a synthetic compound that has widespread use as a nutritional supplement. Cr(pic)3 is claimed to have enhanced bioavailability of chromium compared with chromium from dietary sources[6]. However, Gargas et al reported that the extent of absorption of Cr(pic)3 by adult voluntees was still (2.8%±1.1%) low. Vincent have shown that at physiologically relevant concentrations of Cr(pic)3 and of biological reductants such as ascorbic acid and thiols that Cr(pic)3 catalytically produces reactive oxygen species, which can cleave DNA[7]. These studies are in accord with early studies that revealed mutagenic forms of Cr(III) possessed chelating ligands containing imine nitrogens[8]. Besides, this compound is very stable in buffered aqueous solution or synthetic gastric fluid[9]. Hence, a search has been underway to
