Whilethestartofanewdecadetypicallybringshope,wequicklysawtheworldcometoanearstandstillin2020,

inequity,andthedevastatingeffectsofclimatechange.Itiseasytofallpreytopessimism,orthesensethatwe

individuallyorasacompanycan’tmakeadifference.Buthelplessnessiscorrosivetohope,andhopeplusworkiswhatis

required.Amidthisdisruption,what’sclearisthatwehaveaonce-in-a-generationopportunitytoharnessdigital

technologytodefinetheworldwewanttolivein.Andforthat,Iamoptimistic.

ItisintimeslikethesethatourabilitytostaytruetoMicrosoft’smissionandcorporatepurposeisoftheutmostimportance.

time–up36percentyear-over-year.All-up,wedelivered$143billioninrevenue,$53billioninoperatingincome,and

morethan$60billioninoperatingcashflow–andreturned$35billiontoshareholders.
