Abstract—Largelanguagemodels(LLMs)havetriggeredtremendoussuccesstoempowerdailylifebygenerativeinforma-tion,andthepersonalizationofLLMscouldfurthercontributetotheirapplicationsduetobetteralignmentwithhumanintents.Towardspersonalizedgenerativeservices,acollaborativecloud-edgemethodologysoundspromising,asitfacilitatestheeffectiveorchestrationofheterogeneousdistributedcommunicationandcomputingresources.Inthisarticle,afterdiscussingtheprosandconsofseveralcandidatecloud-edgecollaborationtechniques,weputforwardNetGPTtocapablydeployappropriateLLMsattheedgeandthecloudinaccordancewiththeircomputingcapacity.Inaddition,edgeLLMscouldefficientlyleveragelocation-basedinformationforpersonalizedpromptcompletion,thusbenefitingtheinteractionwithcloudLLMs.Afterdeployingrepresentativeopen-sourceLLMs(e.g.,GPT-2-baseandLLaMAmodel)attheedgeandthecloud,wepresentthefeasibilityofNetGPTonthebasisoflow-rankadaptation-basedlight-weightfine-tuning.Subsequently,wehighlightsubstantialessentialchangesrequiredforanativeartificialintelligence(AI)networkarchitecturetowardsNetGPT,withspecialemphasisondeeperintegrationofcommunicationsandcomputingresourcesandcarefulcalibrationoflogicalAIworkflow.Furthermore,wedemonstrateseveralby-productbenefitsofNetGPT,givenedgeLLM’sastonishingcapabilitytopredicttrendsandinferintents,whichpossiblyleadstoaunifiedsolutionforintelligentnetworkmanagementorchestration.Inanutshell,wearguethatNetGPTisapromisingnative-AInetworkarchitecturebeyond
