The teacher that has changed my life I have been lucky to have had many wonderful teachers in my life. However, the one that really stands out is Karl Chip. You know, the kids who came to Wellesley with some baggage. They are full of potential, but have trouble with their decision-making. And if you were a “scratch and dent kid”, and also happened to be an athlete, you would have no choice but to come within Chip’s orbit. I was one of Chip’s “kids”, a “scratch and dent kid”, but all his kids, regardless of the “type”, received the same wisdom, love, comfort and attention. My story is just one of hundreds of examples of Chip’s influence on his students. Twenty-seven years ago, when I entered Wellesley College, I was an immature athlete and lacked self-confidence. By the time I graduated, I was full of self-confidence — and as a result, probably a much better person. I owe much of my growth to Chip and his devotion to me and the other kids. How did that happen? One part was athletics. The legend (传奇) of Chip’s basketball team of the 1990s is the story of a team that during the 1989-1990 season experienced two wins and twenty losses.
