1100-1115hrs –Challenge: “Stranded!” EXPLAIN: Within a few days, and purely by luck, another plane lost in the area also lands on the island. It’s a small plane and can only board one additional passenger. Only one of the seven survivors can get on the plane. Note that the plane does not have a GPS system so it is very unlikely that the pilot can locate the island again after flying off. In your table team, develop the meeting outcome and the meeting agenda (use action verbs for agenda topics, for e.g., “generate…” “organize...” “evaluate…” “communicate..”. Use the agenda template in your workbook for this challenge and post your agenda on flipchart. You have 10 minutes. At the end of 10 minutes have teams share their agenda. Notes for facilitator: The meeting outcome should be close to “To arrive at a decision on who should be on the plane”. Meeting agenda topics could include: “Generate criteria to decide at who should be on the plane”; “Evaluate each of the 7 survivors using the agreed criteria”. 1115-1115hrs – The DURING Stage EXPLAIN: At the DURING stage we will focus on the role of the Meetings Leader as facilitator. We will engage in numerous practices and role plays to demonstrate the wide variety of facilitation tools and techniques that the Meetings Leader can use to lead effective meetings. 1115-1145hrs – The Meeting Leader As Facilitator EXPLAIN: The principal role of the Meeting Leader is to be a facilitator. ASK: “What is a facilitator?” Using the flip chart pad, note a few of the responses. Then, present: Technically, facilitate means, “to make easier.” Then, lead participants in a brainstorm to throw out the roles of facilitators. After getting a few of those responses up, build on what has been said. End this by presenting, using ideas from the brainstorm, some basic ideas of the roles of a facilitator: A FACILITATOR: ? encourages participation ? maintains focus on the task ? helps build small agreements ? manages this process of decisi
