Lead-in A summary is a concise condensation of contents a clear idea of the most important information in the text a small version of the original text Focus and Length Several readings are required First reading for the main ideas Subsequent reading(s), a better grasp of the details Focus and Length The following steps may be helpful: A) Decide on the purpose of your summary. B) Skim the text for main ideas. C) Carefully read the text and highlight important information or take notes. Focus and Length D) In your own words, write down the main points of each section. Try to write a one- sentence summary of each section. E) Write the key supporting details for the main ideas. F) Go through the process again, making changes for appropriateness.
