Nature and task of the course As an organic component of higher education, college English is a required basic course for undergraduates, which mainly consists of basic English knowledge, English application skills, English learning methods and intercultural communication etc. College English also serves as a teaching system which is guided by the theory of foreign language teaching and integrates multiple teaching modes and measures. College English teaching aims at training all undergraduates for an all-round application ability of English, the ability of listening and speaking in particular, so that they, after graduation, can effectively conduct verbal and formal information exchange in English at their work and social communications.
