J.Oordon et a1.in Belt laboratory have showed the possibility of using light pulse soliton technology in silica optical fibers to improve the operation of communication system therefore increase the transfer rate.It is expected that solitons will have more and more applications in technologies as the solitoa phenomena in different fields are studied deeply in the future. Photorefractive spatial soliton(PRSS)is one kind of optical spatial solitons and has become one of the central topic in nonlinear optics in recent years.In 1992 Segev et a1. predicted theoretically the existence of PRSS for the first time and in the next year Duree et a1.observed the quasi·steady-state PRSS experimentally in SBN crystal.Thereafter, great progress has been made on the study of PRSS,The photovoltaic spatial sollton (pvss),which was predicted theoretically by Valley in 1994.is one type of PRSS.The dark PVSS and bright PVSS were observed by Taya et a1.in LiNb03 in 1 995 and by She et越,in Cu:KNSBN in 1999 respectively.Interestingly,it does not need an applied electric field to make PVSS,SO the PVSS has the potential application in all·optical switch technology. In this thesis,we study some of interesting phenomena of PVSS that have not been studied before,which includ the interaction of tWO solitons with different frequencies and
