It is my great pleasure to be able to pursue my Master’s Degree at Radboud University for the next academic year 2014/2015 and I’m highly motivated for the Radboud Scholarship Programme. During my undergraduate education, I followed a series of English courses covering linguistic, literary and cultural topics, which has broadened my horizon and offered me a solid basis for further and more advanced studies in the field of Linguistics. With my continuous efforts and hard work, I achieved outstanding academic results (top 5% of the class) and I won twice the scholarship of excellence and was elected Excellent Student-Leader of our university. Passionately interested in English linguistics, I often audited advanced macrolinguistic courses of the graduate school of my university, such as Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics, and Anthropological Linguistics. During my spare time, I’ve appreciated the principal works of Saussure, Firth, Halliday, Chomsky, to name but a few. As we all know, Linguistics is not the only field concerned with language. Other disciplines such as psychology, sociology, artificial intelligence etc. are also preoccupied with language. Linguistics is such a subject that is never isolated from other subjects, and instead, it is a unified one that goes beyond the realms of culture and society. It can reach the soul of wit. It does not describe one language as an end, but as a means to explore the universal rules in the hope of revealing human cognitive systems and the essential nature of human beings.
