Take for exa ple Pingzhou of Nanhai City, Guangdong Province, the contents of Cu, Zn and Ni in the irrigation water exceeded the standard by 114 ti es, the contents of Cu, Zn, Cr and Niin theriver bed ud by 12 37 ti es, in the soil by 0. 5 2.9 ti es and in the crops by 0. 3 8 ti es. T he pollutant ele ents flowing into therivers deposit quite quickly in the ud, whereas the ele ents going into the soil are ainly accu ulated in the plough layer. Crops absorb uch ore Cu and Zn than Cr and Ni showing the absorption coefficients in such a decreasing sequence as Zn Cu Ni Cr.
