Teaching Plan
Unit 6 I’m watching TV.
(Section B 3a--3b)
Teaching Goals:
Knowledge Goals
1. Learn some new words and phrases.
2. Go on learning the present progressive tense: S + be (am/is/are) + V-ing……..
3. Learn to describe the activities people are doing using the present progressive tense by reading the short passage in 3a.
Ability Goal:
Students can write a composition about what people are doing using the present progressive tense.( S + be(am/is/are)+ V-ing……..)
Emotion Goal:
Students are more interested in learning English and observe people and things more carefully.
Focuses and Difficulties:
1. The sentence patterns: What are you doing? I am doing...Is he/she doing his homework? Yes, he is/No, he isn’t…….
2. Writing a composition using the present progressive tense(S + be (am/is/are) + V-ing……..)
Teaching Steps:
1. Guide the new lesson.
Ask some students some questions:
Eg: T: What is he/she doing? S: He/She is listening to the teacher.
2. Revision.
The structure of the present progressive tense: S + be (am/is/are)+ V-ing……..
3. Show the teaching goals.
4. Learn 3a. Guide the students to fill in the blanks according to the picture. I give them some methods to fill in the blanks.
5. I give them some pictures about what people are doing. Guide them to write a composition using the present progressive tense according to 3a. Students discuss it in groups.
6. I ask three students to write their compositions on the blackboard. We correct mistakes together.
7. Do some exercises to practice the present progressive tense.
8. Homework.
Remember how to add “–ing” to a verb.
Write a short passage to describe what your family members are doing now.
