Emotional aims: 1 To enrich vocabulary; 2 To have a basic knowledge of types of humour and humour masters; Teaching key points: 1) To further develop reading skills, including skimming, scanning, word-guessing and so on. 2) To improve ss’ reading skills. Teaching difficult points: How to help develop their ability of analyzing some difficult sentences. How to help them to form a good habit of reading. How to improve their ability of outlining the main idea of the whole text or each paragraph. Step 2 Pre-reading To review types of humour and know more about Charlie Chaplin. Step 3 Reading Task1 To listen to the tape and check whether the following sentences are “True or False”(from the learning guide for students); Task2 To skim the passage to complete the notes about Charlie Chaplin(from textbook: page 19, exercise 1); Task3 To scan the passage and fill in the blanks to have a further understanding (from the learning guide for students); Task4 To discuss the questions about Charlie Chaplin(from textbook: page 19,excersice 3).
