In the polymerization process, oxalic acid was adopted for stabilizer. The influences of polymerization condition on the conversion rate and softening temperature of resultant polymer were investigated. The optimal polymerization conditions were determined with the results of the conversion rate, softening temperature and infrared spectra of resultant polycaprolactam. Caprolactam conversion rate was up to 92% under the reaction temperature of 240 when the ratios of the phosphoric acid and oxalic acid to caprolactam was 0.02 and 0.03, respectively, viscosity average molecular weight of resultant polymer was about 6.9 × 104 g/mol.
