PAGE PAGE IV Abstract Competitive volleyball games usually adopt three out of five sets. Each competition lasts quite long, which is a challenge for athletes’ stamina, especially for assistant setters. As comprehensive athletes who spike, block, defend and pass balls during competitions, assistant setters play an very important role in competitions. This research uses two assistant setters of Chinese women’s volleyball as object of study. By using research methods of video observation, literature method, expert interviews, mathematical statistics and logical analysis, this research tries to understand the moving and jumping features exhibited by assistant setters of Chinese women’s volleyball based on the indexes like number of movements and times of jumping used by assistant setters of Chinese women’s volleyball in this year’s world championship and provides reference data for specific physical training for assistant setters in the future. By analyzing the data of the eight games between two assistant setters of Chinese women’s volleyball and other countries(America, Dominica, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Italy, Japan, Azerbaijan, Cuba) in the 17th world championship , this research draws the following conclusions: The moving and blocking features of assistant setters is mainly moving and blocking using one step and two steps. The number of spiking of assistant setters in competitions is mainly moving using two steps and three steps, which shows that basically assistant setters do not have the feature of spiking using one step. The features of passing balls of assistant setters is mainly moving using one step and they seldom pass balls, which shows the feature that assistant setters seldom jump to pass balls during competitions. Jumping features of assistant setters are mainly like these: blocking and jumping are used the most times, spiking is used less times and jumping to pass balls is used the least times.
