However,some of the dams started the construction blindly with no good geologic reconnaissance of the foundation and the poor management during the construction process, which resulted in lots of security problems in projects. Therefore,it was pretty significant to evaluate the operation of the dam accurately and reasonably. Stress stability analysis of Gravity which is built on the complex bedrock is the basis for other design,which is also an important part of the whole design. Stress is mainly the strength design of dam foundation and the tensile ability design of dam heel. Stability is accounting the dam with the action of load of stability against sliding along the dam foundation or deep weak structure of ground, which is inspecting the dam whether meets safety requirements. In the calculation of stress, based on the finite element software ABAQUS, combined with the project research in complex rock conditions,considered the fault fracture zone and weak interlayer, through the static analysis of dam bedrock, working out the effects of the dam heel stress on the different conditions. The sensitivity factors to consider are The range of foundation calculation, elastic modulus of foundation, The combination of dam and the foundation, The position and strength of weak interlayer, The location and Dip of fault, the rock heterogeneity and material nonlinearity and so on. During the stability calculations, it summarized the calculation method of computing the sliding stability safety factors ,and discussed the standard of the instability criterion. The safety factor was calculated more accurate due to the utilization of two criteria--the displacement mutation and the shaping overall zone,by using the finite element strength reduction through reducing the material parameters.
