PCBs are known of their harmful effects and long-range transport in the environment, accumulation in the food-chain and the resulted harmful effects.Kyrgyzstan has signed and ratified the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants in 2006. The main obligations concerning PCBs are the following:-Immediate cessation of production of new PCBs;-Stop using equipment containing PCBs by 2025;- Provide environmentally sound elimination of PCBs not later than 2028;- Every five years submit a report on measures for stopping production and using PCBs to theConference of the Parties.Inventories have been carried out in Kyrgyzstan. In the National Implementation Plan on 2006 the amounts of PCB and PCB contaminated waste was estimated as follows:- transformers 19, 230 units; - transformer oil 14, 285 tons;- transformer oil stocks 140 tons;- capacitors 2, 373 units; - capacitor oil 24 tons, - material contaminated with PCB ca. 21 tons.The UNDP/GEF Project document “Management and disposal of PCBs in Kyrgyzstan” from 2010 refers to an inventory from 2009 and gives following amounts:Twenty two (22) in-service TNZ transformers were located in various enterprises around the countryaccounting for an inventory of
