Employment Strategy 17 Education and training on disability issues Description Collate educational material on disability issues for staff including information on Health Safety aspects and place on Department of Labour intranet. Provide opportunities for staff to participate in disability awareness training. Desired Outcome Increased awareness and understanding throughout the Department of Labour of disability issues Staff respond to the needs of colleagues with disabilities High quality working lives for staff within the Department of Labour Links to Strategy Objective and Action Encourage and educate for a non-disabling society (1.0) Foster an aware and responsive public service (6.0) Outcome Measures and Timeframes Information on disability issues (including the NZDS) is included on the Department of Labour intranet, reviewed and updated on a quarterly basis. NZDS and Department of Labour disability workplan included on agenda(s) at: Staff fora Regional and National Operational Connectedness meetings Regular staff meetings. Guest speakers to attend regular staff meetings. Staff Environmental Survey Description Undertake a departmental environmental survey to gauge how well the department is supporting and responding to staff Desired Outcome The department is responsive to the individual needs of staff with disabilities. High quality working lives for staf
