Criteria of good innovation Cognitive and affective changes Good implementation To train future teachers or in-service teachers learning technology Unintended consequences, mostly appearing as affective, social and emotional changes, can be measured. 3 requirements Good pedagogy Good people Good performance Good pedagogy “Past and present research has provided evidence to support the claim that technologies for teaching and learning must be pedagogically sound” (Ferdig, 2006, p.749). What is a sound pedagogy? Based on social constructivist, the innovation must provide: Authentic, interesting and challenging academic content A sense of ownership for students Active participation, collaboration and social interaction Opportunities for the creation of artifacts in a variety of ways Publication, reflection and feedback What will good People do?(Cont.) Cognitive tools that scaffold and support students’ learning A process of creation, implementation and use by innovator, educator and student. To include people as a component in innovation design and implementation (Ferdig, 2001). What should good people do? Bidirectional dialogic interaction between innovation and established practice Interaction should be in genuine ways Flexible nature of both teaching and technology. Opportunities for legitimate participation (Lave Wenger, 1991) Legitimate peripheral participation ‘Moving toward full participation in practice involves not just a greater commitment of time, intensified effort, more and broader responsibilities within the community, and more difficult and risky tasks, but, more significantly, an increasing sense of identity as a master practitioner’ (Lave Wenger, 1991, p.111). The goal of legitimate peripheral participation is to allow students to act as practitioners in the practice that they are being encultured into.
