AbstractAlong with the enhancing proportion of hydroelectricity in the whole power system in our country, the safe operation of the hydropower plant and the hydropower units is more and more important to the whole power system. The development of the fault diagnosis technology, the actualization of condition monitoring, and the enhancement of the operation stability of hydroelectric unit are in urgent need for the development of hydroelectric power generation.The monitoring and fault diagnosis of hydroelectric unit system belongs to upper computer part in the electrical automation system. Its software design and program running has close relationship to operation system of upper computer, which are various in the existing electrical automation system application. The operation system that the monitoring and fault diagnosis of hydroelectric unit software system depended on will be the situation that the three mainstream operation system, including UNIX, Windows and Linux, are coexisted. So, it is very important to study and develop the monitoring and fault diagnosis of hydroelectric unit software system that can run on various operation systems.This article describes the aim，meaning and situation at home and abroad of themonitoring and fault diagnosis of hydroelectric unit system, discusses it’s content and principle and analyses it’s structure and function. The dissertation begins with the condition that the various operation systems coexist in the monitoring and fault diagnosis of hydroelectric unit system, followed by the analysis and comparison of the three mainstream operation system and its developing tools, introduced novel program developing tool package Qt into the design and implement of the monitoring and fault diagnosis of hydroelectric unit software system.
