Without their understanding and patience, I could not get rid of my frustration and depression.AbstractVocabulary acquisition is an essential step in secondlanguage acquisition, and both learners and teachers are aware of the fact that acquiring a second language involves the acquisition of a large amount of words. However, for many learners when facing such an enormous task, they feel it somewhat apprehensive and confusing. Therefore, language teachers as well as researchers have showed a keen interest in finding out how learners’ reservoir of vocabulary can be expanded and their lexical knowledge can be developed (LauferHulstijn, 2001).It is obvious that one of the major tasks researchers and teachers face is to help students to acquire a large portion of vocabulary, and for years researchers have been searching for ways to effectively enhance learners’ acquisition and retention of vocabulary knowledge.Many studies tried to investigate the effectiveness of different tasks on learners’ vocabulary acquisition. In order to observe, manipulate and measure the task effectiveness, a set of operationalized and practical criteria is needed
