Short-coursepreoperativeradiotherapyversuslong-coursepreoperativeradiochemotherapyforstageIIorIIIrectalcancer：aMeta-analysisontheclinicaloutcomesAbstractObjective:Tocomparetheclinicaloutcomesbetweenshort-coursepreoperativeradiotherapy（SCRT）andlong-coursepreoperativeradiochemotherapy（LCRT）forstageIIorIIIrectalcancerwithMeta-analysis.Methods:OriginalarticlespublishedsincethebuildingofthelibrarytoDecember2012weresearchedinthePubmed,Ovid,SpringerLink,CNKIandWanfangdata,whichcomparedtheclinicaloutcomesbetweenshort-coursepreoperativeradiotherapyandlong-coursepreoperativeradiochemotherapyforstageIIorIIIrectalcancer.Datawereextractedfromthesetrialsby2reviewersindependentlyandanalyzedbyRevMan5.2software.Results:Accordingtothecriterion,9articleswereidentified.TheanalysesshowthattheSCRTgroup’sTdownstagerateislessthanLCRTgroup（OR=0.52,95%CI:0.36-0.75,p=0.0004）,theSCRTgroup’spathologicalcompleteresponserateislessthanLCRTgroup（OR=0.08,95%CI：0.03-0.19,p0.00001）.TherewasnosignificantdifferenceintherateofR0resectionbetweenthetwogroups（OR=0.70,95%CI：0.31-1.58,P=0.39）.TheSCRTgroup’spostoperativecomplicationrateishigherthanLCRTgroup（OR=1.70,95%CI：1.08-2.69,p=0.02）.Therewasnosignificantdifferenceintherateofsphincterpreservationbetweenthetwogroups(OR=1.46,95%CI：0.4-5.31,P=0.57）.Therewasnosignificantdifferenceintherateoflatetoxicitybetweenthetwogroups（OR=0.95,95%CI：0.61-1.49,P=0.82）.Therewasnosignificantdifferenceinthe3-yearoverallsurvivalratebetweenthetwogroups（HR=1.05,95%CI：0.67-1.65,P=0.83）.Therewasnosignificantdifferenceinthe3-yeardiseasefreesurvivalratebetweenthetwogroups（HR=1.02,95%CI：0.71-1.46,P=0.93）.Conclusion:InphaseII/IIIrectalcancer,comparedtoSCRT,LCRThasadvantagesonTdownstagerate,completeresponserateandpostoperativecomplicationrate.Therewasnosignificantdifferenceintherateoflatetoxicity,R0resectionratesphincterpreservationrate,3-yearoverallsurvivalrateand3-yeardiseasefreesurvivalratebetweenthetwogroups.Keywords:Rectalcancer;Short-coursepreoperativeradiotherapy;Long-coursepreop
