AbstractAs everyone knows, writing is one of the difficulties in the English language skills and it is one of the most difficult skills to master. According to the requirements of English writing in New Curriculum Standard, we can see that writing has attracted more and more attention. Therefore, it is imperative to find an effective teaching method and improve the English writing ability of senior high school students in China.At present, the English writing class in senior high school mainly uses Product Approach, Process Approach and Genre Approach. Product Approach too focuses on language knowledge but ignores the cultivation of students? discourse ability. Process Approach does not pay enough attention to the linguistic features or the input of language knowledge. Genre Approach attaches importance to the language structure and the communicative purpose of the writing, but neglects the writing skills. Based on the advantages of the above three kinds of writing teaching methods, Process-Genre Approach is a comprehensive model of writing which is proposed by Professor Badger and White in Stirling University.In order to examine the effectiveness of Process-Genre Approach, the author used the experiment, questionnaire and interview on the empirical research among the senior high school students. The empirical research was carried out in two classes which had the similar numbers of students and the similar English writing level, thenused SPSS software to make the data analysis. During the twelve weeks of experiment, the author carried out the pre-test, post-test, questionnaire and interview.The writer aims at answering the two following research questions. The first one is the English writing difficulties which are reflected by the senior high school students. The second one is the effectiveness of applying Process-Genre Approach in senior high school English writing teaching.
