In this study, hot metal samples were collected from transfer ladles before, during and after injection. The samples were characterized for inclusions both in-situ and on remelt buttons to understand the process sequence. Techniques such as energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), cathodoluminescence microscope (CLM) and automated scanning electronic microscope (SEM) were used to understand the mechanism of hot metal (HM) desulfurization. Refractory inclusions such as TiC were found to be frequent nucleation sites for MgS. A sa
