What feminism stands for? Women are not to be ,but to become 你不是天生为女人，你成长为女人 Feminism is a common word about a complicated phenomenon which cares about women standard, searches for the equality between men and women, and strives for eliminating all the barriers preventing the liberation and development of the women. The term feminism first appeared in the 19th century in France and the Netherlands. Since then its meaning has been widely debated and people still often disagree about what it stands for. Here we look at its history and why the word has become cloaked (掩护）in controversy. The development of western Feminism Western Feminism in three stages: 1. The first generation of feminist ( late nineteenth Century to early twentieth Century ) The first significant feminist movement began in the late 19th century in the UK with the campaingn for women’suffrage(投票，选举权）. Women gained the right to vote(if they were over the age of 30) in 1918 in Britain. 2. Modern Feminism (early twentieth Century to 60 time ) In the 1960s ,a second wave of feminism erupted. People fought for issues such as acces to birth control and equal pay. 3. Postmodern Feminism ( since the nineteen sixties ） A third wave of feminism emerged in the early 1990s ,as an attempt to rectify(矫正） the movements’ perceived failures. She was one of concubines of Emperor Taizong; she was the empress of Emperor Caozong; she was the mother of Emperor Zhongzong and Emperor zhongzong and Emperor Ruizong;she was once a nun in the temple. But her most glorious title was that she was the only female emperor in Chinese history who actually ruled the whole country for almost half a century.
