Safety Section 2 : Safety 2.1 SAFETY FEATURES Considerable design effort has been put into the MODEL 9000 to ensure safe operation. These features are described below. A. Excess Vibration As the rotor accelerates through its “critical speed,” it develops a slight wobble just prior to stabilizing about its’ center of mass. If the wobble is excessive due to an unbalanced condition, a proximity sensor and control circuit shuts the centrifuge down and energizes a buzzer and a failure light on the control panel. A warning light and message will come on at 80% of runout failure level. See Figure 2.1A for location of proximity sensor. Figure 2.1A B. Cover Open Two microswitches detect lid closure and the CPU will not allow the system to start without the closed. See Figure 2.1B for location of microswitches. Centrifuge Model 9000 Operation and Service Manual 9 Safety Figure 2.1B C. Latch #1 The CPU causes Latch #1 to engage upon start up (de-energized state). The latch prevents opening the lid.
