(Il) Hwey-Lian HSIEl直弋 Chang-Po CHEN* and Kun-Hsiung CHANQ* (Received Oct. 30, 1976) The mudskipper , Boleophthalmus pectinirostris , is one of the subtropical , intertidal fishes. The oogenesis of the fish has ten developmental stages: oogonia stage, chromatin- nucleolus stage, peri-nucleolus stage, yolk vesicle stage, primary yolk stage , secondary yolk stage, tertiary yolk stage, migratory nucleus stage, prematuration stage and ripe egg stage. Near the spawning season, only two groups of oocytes are recognized; therefore the growth of oocytes of the fish belongs to group synchronism. Although the advanced oocytes of the fish undergo unsynchronous maturation , the fish are assumed to spawn once annually and the other unovulated , advanced oocytes could be reabsorbed. The female genital papillium ratio (GPR) is related to the development of the oocyte. The larger the ratio , the more advanced the oocytes developed. As the ratio is equal to or larger than 1.5, the oocytes of the fishes are in the migratory nucleus stage or in the more advanced stage.
