Some tend to dash off at the sight of the topic without any concrete planning, taking down what comes to their minds. As a result, the chances are that their essays appear to be badly organized, unreadable or even off the point. To improve our writing, we need to develop good writing habits and be aware of effective process. 　　Proper writing process makes effective and better writing performance. It can be divided into three stages: prewriting, writing, and rewriting. 　　Prewriting 　　Step 1 Explore ideas (journalistic questions / brainstorming) 　　Step 2 Organize ideas (select ideas, arrange them in logical orders, work out an written outline) 　　Writing 　　Step 3 Write the first draft (usually based on the outline) 　　Rewriting 　　Step 4 Edit and revise 　　Step 5 Copy or type out the final draft neatly Getting Started Exchange information with a partner on your writing process when you are assigned a writing task, considering the following points: 1 Do you think for a period before you write? How do you collect materials and ideas? Do you make a plan? Do you make notes of your planning? Do you stop and read through what you have written? Do you edit and revise your writing, crossing out and putting in extra sentences? What do you find the most difficult in English writing? Which step(s) did they miss? 2 　　Before my writing I usually think about the topic for a while. I will think it over so as to figure out what I want to say and how to say. I find it the most difficult to have a beginning. It always costs me a great deal of time, nearly half of the time I spend on the whole writing. After I get a satisfactory beginning I start to write.
