Unit 15 Communication Workshop
Speaking: A Debate
凤阳县职教中心 赵 健
本课选自15单元的最后一个环节communication shop,它包含了listening 和speaking两个部分,从听、说两个方面来提高学生的语言技能。
Listening的部分旨在锻炼学生能听懂表示不用意见的功能用语,并学习运用。
而speaking的部分旨在锻炼学生在群体辩论中,能够清楚地表达自己的意见,运用恰当的词汇有礼貌的表示不同的意见。
Teaching Objectives:
By the end of today’s class, we will be able to
1. Listen and grasp how to express and exchange views in a debate.
2. Have a debate on the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad.
3. Practise using speaking strategies for debate.
Teaching Important Points:
Help students complete the table with advantages and disadvantages while listening to Wang Shanshan’s views.
Encourage students to use the expressions to exchange views.
Teaching Difficult Points:
1. How to help students guess the missing words during listening.
2. Some students may not be very confident in arguing for their points of views in a debate.
Teaching Methods:
Groups work to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad.
Listening-and-answering to complete the table.
Listening-and-discussing to grasp some expressions using in a debate.
Teaching Aids:
Multimedia
Teaching Procedures:
Step I Lead-in
Show a question on the screen.
After graduating, will you study abroad? Why or why not?
2. Let students work with their partners.
3. Then have some students share their opinions with the class.
Step II Listening
Task 1
1. Listen to Wang Shanshan’s views and make some notes about the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad.
2. Complete the table with the advantages and disadvantages after listening once again.

Task 2
Listen to four Chinese students discussing studying abroad, and complete the form.
