What are the limitations of integrating the four skills? 12.1 Why should we integrate the four skills In last few units, we have talked about the four skills and the need to integrate them in our teaching. We often use not only one skill when we communicate. We may listen while we speak, we may write down a message and read over what we have written. In reality, when we communicate with each other, we often use more than one of the four skills, which are listening, speaking, reading and writing. It’s a must in communication. Task 1:Think of the language skills that might be used in the following situations. Reasons for integrating the language skills If students are able to read a short story, the skill will them to write their own story. If they can understand a dialogue about buying things in a shop, they can use this as a model for practising their own speaking in a similar situation.
