So pyridine itself shows some basicity and nucleophilic reactivity. The lone pair is on one of the three sp2 orbitals, and thus has a high s content. That’s why the basicity of pyridine is relatively weak. The N atom on the ring acts as a electron withdrawing group, making the electron density lower than benzene.
