D epartment of Building and Construction, City University ofH ong Kong, H ong Kong, China) Abs tract: In this paper, the fluctuation characteristics of turbu lence integral scale and w ind speed spectra of near ground typhoon are stud ied based on the four sets of long tmi e record of w ind speed and w ind direction during the passages of typhoon. Firstly, several calcu lation methods for turbulence integral scale are presented. Secondly, the variation of turbu lence integral scale during the passage of typhoon, as w ell as the stabilization of the calcu lation methods are investigated. Then, the longitud inal fluctuation w ind speed spectra are calculated and the comparison to the empirical spectra, such as theVon-karm an spectrum, the Davenport spectrum, the Smi iu spectrum and Har- ris spectrum, are mi plemented.
