Course Outline for Sustainable Business (Fall 2010) 《 可持续商业 》课程大纲 MBA Education Center, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies Course Description The concept of sustainable business has grown in popularity around the world, and in China too, there is a dialogue about how companies can provide jobs, products/services and shareholder returns, but also provide the community with positive social and environmental benefits. Managers are increasingly urged to ensure companies remain profitable but also to act responsibly. Yet many managers are not equipped with the knowledge or tools to run sustainable businesses, let alone develop new businesses for which positive social and environmental outcomes are as important as profit. This course explores these issues from a global context theoretically but also from a practical level within China. Teaching Objectives This course aims to give managers and individuals the knowledge and tools to be able to apply sustainability practices to their business in a way that is both profitable to the business and to society as a whole. This course does not appoint blame for the challenges we face, but instead focuses on how businesses and employees can take action to be part of the solution . After you have studied the lecture ,you can Grasp an overview of sustainability ; analyze business, social and environmental issues that are relevant to the development of sustainable business practices globally and in China; be equipped with some tools for monitoring ,managing and performance Tentative Teaching Schedule for Sustainable Business Session date Topic Chapter Reading Activities 1 11-13 Introduction and course overview.
