In recentyears, the research onTCMshas al ready made a great progress. In this review, the background of quality control is discussed from the requirement ofTCMs industry, modernization ofTCMs, the requirement of techniques aswellasopportunitiesand challenges in the quality controlofTCMs. The significance ofquali ty control to mi prove the efficiency and safety ofTCMs, to promote the development ofTCMs industry and the globalization ofTCMs are also discussed. The status quo of quality control is reviewed, in which the drawbacks ofprocess contro,l safety contro,l the preparation of refer ence compounds and fingerprint in quality control of TCMs were analyzed.
