It will be extended to the east, west and north of Guangdong Province since 2012. In order to promote the successful experience of Guangdong greenway practice, the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Guangdong Province organized the Guangdong Greenway Forum in Beijing. h is forum was guided by the Ministry of Housing and Urban- Rural Development of PRC and was focused on the development of comprehensive functions of greenways. More than 200 urban planners and government oicials were invited to discuss the sustainable development of greenways by keynote speeches and Q A section. Greenways at community, urban and province scales play an important role in improving our living environment, promoting green transportation and guaranteeing the eco-safety. Greenways help to protect eco-systems, provide recreational and educational opportunities, aesthetic and tourism experiences as well as safe evacuation. Just as Mr.WANG Yang who is a member of h e Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and Secretary of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee said, greenway network is a systematic program that integrates residents’ social, environmental, ecological and economy benei ts. h e multi-function development of greenways has been strengthened in Guangdong. A greenway network is being established here, of ering residents access to the great nature. h e proposal to establish greenway network in Guangdong was put forward in the early 2009. In the past two years, greenway has become the focus of the urban and rural development programs in Guangdong and the concern of the citizens.
