A focus on Stonehenge Do you know where it is? The Stonehenge is Located on a plain （平原） about two miles (3.22 km) west of Amnesbury, Wiltshire in Southern England. By whom and when was it discovered? In 1130 a catholic（天主教的） father found the Stonehenge by accident . How were so many enormous stones transported there? And how were they put into the position? Archaeologists have suggested that the stones were transported using timber（木材） and rope. Timber A-frames may also have been used to position the stones. How long did it take to be completed? It is estimated （估计） that the construction of the site（场所）may have involved some 242 years of man-work, while the working of the stones may have required up to 2,300 years of work. 1 Some scientists suppose that it was a temple made for the ancient earth deities（神）. 2 It has also been called an astronomical observatory for making significant events on the prehistoric calendar. 3 It was a grave（墓） of high-rank citizens of long ago.
