任脉 Conception Vessel Lecturer: Dr Leong Kwai Yin Pathway Diagram of the Conception Vessel Pathway of the Conception Vessel • The Conception Vessel originates in the pelvic cavity, connects with the internal genito-urinary organs, and emerges in the perineum at CV01 会阴. • It ascends through the region of the pubic hair and then runs up the midline of the abdomen, chest, and neck to the mentolabial groove beneath the lower lip. Here it splits into two branches that contour the mouth and ascend to the infraorbital region. • A second course arises in the pelvic cavity, enters the spine and ascends up the back. Physiology  The Conception Vessel has the following functions: 1. Sea of Yin Meridians. 阴经之海、阴脉之海。 2. Regulates all Yin Meridians (foot Yin Meridians join to it at the abdomen, while the hand Yin Meridians connects through the foot Yin Meridians). 3. Regulates menstruation. 4. Nurtures the foetus. 调节月经，妊养胎儿。 滑寿 《十四经发挥》：任之为言，妊也； 女子得之妊养也，行腹部之中行，为人生养身之本。 Indications  Menstrual Irregularities. 月经失调  Menstrual Block. 闭经  White Vaginal Discharge. 带下病  Miscarriage. 流产  Enuresis. 遗尿  Sterility Problems. 不孕不育  Abdominal Masses. 腹部痞满 Conception Vessel 任脉 • In ancient times, 任and 妊share the same meaning – pregnant with a child. • 妊originally means the pigmentation found along the midline of the abdomen of a pregnant woman.
