W enzhou U rban Construction Design Institute, W enzhou 32 000, China) Abs tract: The dynam ic behavior ofW enzhou overconsolidated soft clay under cyclic load ing w as studied by cyclic triaxial tests. The change of dynam ic stress, porew ater pressure and axial strain of norma,l light overconsolidated, and strong overconsolidated soft clay w ith oyclic numberw ere investigated respectively. It is observed that negative pore w ater pressure is generated for overconsolidated clay under cyclic loading. For light overconsolidated clay, the negative pore pressure turnspositive w ith the increase of cyclic number. How ever, for strong overconsolidated clay, the pore pressure is alw ays negative. The dynam ic strain of the clay accumu latesmore slow ly, turn ing strain decrea- ses, critical cyclic stress ratio and dynam ic strength increase alongw ith the increase of overconsolidated ratio.
