Northw estE lectric Pow er Design institute, X ian 710032, China) Abs tract: Conventional seism ic design needs strengthening bearing capacity of structures to resist the earthquake ac tion , and needs reducing constructionmembers constraint to release temperature stress. A ccording to the character istics of different temperature actions, three calculating temperature cases are designed . SAP2000 code is used to calculate the temperature effectsof the support structure system of aircooled condenser, and then the scope and dis tribution of internal force or stress of each kind component are provided. In order to harmonize the contradiction caused by temperature and earthquake action, three designing methods are suggested. These designing methods con sider both temperature stress releasing and earthquake energy dissipation, so the destroy of the structure and equip ments can be reduced when the structure is subjected to earthquakes.
