Paragraph Writing ;1. How do people decide what area they’ll work in? Is there now more freedom of choice involved in deciding on what field one will enter than there used to be? The element of conscious choices is certainly more evident. Students take into account the results of their aptitude test, the advice of counselors and their own inclinations, even though parental pressure may be very great to go into a family business or to enter a professional field. Due to specialization in each field and the fact that each generation gets a little better education than the previous one, the former practice of following a parent’s or relative’s path is disappearing. Nevertheless, all too often people decide their careers in a very haphazard manner with little regard for their own likes, dislikes or abilities. ;2. Japanese women have changed since the war. They have become prettier, brighter, more decisive, and more outspoken. The young people certainly are far more logical and far less sentimental than the prewar generations. Some regret this. They think women, in gaining their freedom, have lost their femininity---their modesty, their warmth, and their shy grace. They accuse women of being drawn to superficial things. A modern Japanese woman, they say, instead of trying to enrich her inner self, is in a mad scramble to ape anything that is new and foreign---fashions, cosmetics, hairdos, rock-and-roll. And there are many Japanese who say that a caricature of an up-to-date wife is one who sits beside a washing machine in a house that has no hot running water.; 3.
