Everyone does this at some point. However, if you want to lead a successful and productive life, you have to let the past go and do not regret for events which cannot be changed. The successful person takes this approach: learn a lesson from past mistakes and make adjustments in future behavior. If you just indulge yourself into the negativity, you will create a vicious cycle where negative experiences and negative feelings are reinforced, which leads to more negative outcomes and more negative feelings. If you insist on dwelling in the past, I suggest that you focus on your past successes. When you find yourself starting to dwell on past negative experiences, immediately halt and remind yourself: “There is nothing I can do now which will change what happened.” Regardless of what you have done ― or failed to do ― the only sane approach is to accept it and move forward. ;Dialogue 1 Tom: Hi, Jane. Long time no see. I heard you went to Hangzhou last month. Jane: Hi, Tom. Yes, I went there during the summer vacation. I had a very good time. Tom: Great! How was the weather there? Jane: It was great. Though it rained sometimes, I enjoyed it very much. Tom: Where did you live? Jane: Yeah, I booked the hotel online before I went there. It was very clean and the price was reasonable. Tom: Oh, good for you! How about the food? Did you like it? Jane: Yes, the local food there was very tasty. Tom: What was the deepest impression about your trip there? Jane: The people were kind and the ancient city was gorgeous.
